
Day 1: Arrival Delhi
Our representative will receive you on your arrival. Checking into the
hotel, In the evening visit the local markets to get an illustration on how
to buy Indian spices. Return to the hotel for a traditional dinner and an
overnight stay.
Day 2: Fly from Delhi – Leh; 3505 meters / 11567
feet
Arrive at Leh’s Kushok Bakula Rinpochi Airport. Take the first
whiff of this spectacular mountain city as you step out into 10000 feet plus
terrain.You are received and welcomed by our local representative at the
airport and transferred to hotel and you rest for acclimatization.In the
late afternoon, after tour briefing by our representative, visit Shanti
Stupa and then stroll through Leh Bazaar.Overnight in hotel at Leh.
Leh: a historic town that served as the royal capital of
the Old Kingdom, is dominated by the nine-storey Leh palace built by King
Singge Namgyal in the 17th century in the grand tradition of Tibetan
architecture, which is said to have inspired the famous Potala in Lhasa
built about half a century later. It rises from the edge of the town
overlooking Leh. However, it is now dilapidated and deserted.
DAY 3:
Today proceed for a full day monastery tour and get a flavour of
the history and culture of Ladakh.With a visit to Thiksey, Shey, Hemis, Stok
and Leh Palace you cover the best known monuments around Leh.Overnight in
hotel at Leh.Shanti Stupa is 3 km from Fort Road, Leh and located on the
hilltop at Changspa. There is a very steep set of steps but there are great
views from the top. A magnificent white-domed structure, the Shanti Stupa
offers spectacular views of the sunrise and sunset. The stupa looks best at
night, when it is beautifully illuminated with glittering lights.
DAY 4: Drive east of Leh to Alchi (3300 m /
10000 ft)., Ulleytokpo, 68 kms
After breakfast, drive along the Indus river past Spituk and
Hall of Fame meeting the sangam of Zanskar and Indus rivers near Nimu and
further past Magnetic Hill on to Alchi and Ulleytokpo. Visit Alchi Monastery
and admire the 1000 year old paintings and murals.Overnight in camp at
Uleytokpu.Alchi (3500 m / 11500 feet) is a small village in the Indus
Valley, 67 kms west of Leh. Abandoned centuries ago the gompa or monastery
is known as Chos-kor, or religious enclave and comprises of five temples.
Its murals, dating from the 11th century, pre-date the Tibetan style of
painting seen in all the other gompas of the region. Unlike other
monasteries, Alchi is at ground level and is nestled in the shade of a
garden.
DAY 5:
After breakfast drive 57 kms up to reach Lamayuru with its lunar
landscapes and the oldest monastery of Ladakh. After lunch drive 30 kms to
Drokpa Valley, and up to the villages of Dha and Hanu, inhabited by the
ancient Aryan community.Overnight in camp at Ulleytokpo.Lamayuru Monastery
is believed to have been a sacred site for the pre-Buddhist religion known
as Bon. The main image is a large Vairocana (the Teaching Buddha) seated on
a lion throne with a garuda (mythical bird) and sea monsters surrounding his
head. Lamayuru is 125 kms west of Leh at an altitude of 3510 m / 11600
feet.
DAY 6:
After breakfast in the morning, drive back from Lower Ladakh
(Sham) to Leh and enroute visit the monasteries of Ridzong, Likir, Basgo.
Overnight in hotel at Leh Basgo Gompa (Maitreya Temples), is situated about
40 km west of Leh. In Buddhist philosophy, the Maitreya represents the
Buddha of the future. Its three sacred buildings, constructed in the
fifteenth century, are the oldest surviving Chamba Lhakhang (Maitreya
Temples). Within the main temple sits a 14-meter-high Maitreya Buddha.
DAY 7: Drive north of Leh to Nubra Valley, 120
kms one way (6 hours).
Exciting experience at Khardung La, 39 kms from Leh. (Mountain
Pass at 5578 m / 18300 ft.) Here is supposed to be the highest motorable
road in the world.In Nubra Valley (also known as Valley of Flowers), visit
Diskit gompa, the white sand dunes and take a short camel safari on the
double humped Bactrian Camels. Drive upto Hunder village.
The name Nubra Valley is applied to the region comprising the
valley of the river Nubra and that of the Shayok, both above and below their
confluence. The route north of Leh crosses over Khardung-la. From the top,
one can see all the way south over the Indus valley to the seemingly endless
peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range, and north to the giants of the Saser
massif. The villages are large and prosperous, and have thick plantations of
willow and poplar.
DAY 8:
Visit Samstenling Monastery, Sumur Village in Nubra Valley. Drive
back to Leh, passing Khardung La once again.Overnight in hotel at Leh.Tso
Moriri, Rupshu Valley: Here, the Zanskar range is
transformed into bare rolling many-hued hills, divided by open high-altitude
valleys scoured by dust devils. It is a landscape quite unlike any other in
Ladakh or elsewhere in India. This area is now open for foreigners for
visiting
.
DAY 9: A long drive to Tso Moriri through
spectacular landscapes and rough roads via Chumathang hot springs into
Rupshu Valley - 240 kms, 8 hours.
Tsomiri, at 4595 m / 15165 feet, is the largest of the High Altitude Lakes
to be situated entirely within India. It is 180 square kms in area and about
25 kms / 15 miles long and 7 kms / 4-5 miles wide. Overnight in camp at Tso
Moriri. Tso Moriri, Rupshu Valley: Here, the Zanskar range is transformed
into bare rolling many-hued hills, divided by open high-altitude valleys
scoured by dust devils. It is a landscape quite unlike any other in Ladakh
or elsewhere in India. This area is now open for foreigners for
visiting.
DAY 10:
Explore Korzok monastery, nomad Chang-pa camp and the migratory
birdlife.
Overnight in camp at Tso Moriri.Tso Moriri, Rupshu Valley:
Here, the Zanskar range is transformed into bare rolling many-hued hills,
divided by open high-altitude valleys scoured by dust devils. It is a
landscape quite unlike any other in Ladakh or elsewhere in India. This area
is now open for foreigners for visiting
DAY 11:
Tsomoriri lake - Leh, 265 kms / 9 hrs.Drive back to Leh via Tso Kar,
Tanglang la (5359 m / 17700 feet).Last minute shopping in Leh bazaar for
curios in the evening.
Overnight in hotel at Leh.Korzok, situated at 15,000 ft (4,572 m) is the
only permanent settlement in Rupshu.In Rupshu the animal most likely to be
spotted is the Kyang, the wild ass. The lakes are breeding grounds for
numerous species of birds.
DAY 12:
Check out from Leh hotel and transfer to airport to board the
morning flight to New Delhi or onward destination, feeling blessed for the
stolen moments spent in Ladakh
DAY 13: Varanasi - Delhi – By Flight
On time assistance & transfer to airport for flight to Delhi. Arrive
Delhi dinner with India Dance Show at local restaurant and transfer to
International airport to connect flight for your onward destination.
